FAQs

Alumni news

Educo has selected lodgings located throughout Paris, in a variety of neighborhoods and arrondissements with true Parisian flavor. Please understand that your life in Paris will involve daily  travel on public transportation. The average commute to the EDUCO center from student housing is 35 minutes by Métro, which is an easy commute by Parisian standards.

Educo offers 3 housing options:

    - living in a French household as a paying guest

    - living in an apartment with another student from Educo

    - living in a student residence, "foyer"

The program recommends living in a room rented for you in a French household or in a foyer so that you evolve within a French-speaking environment.

There are very few apartments. This is intentional in order to provide a context within which you will need to speak French.

As there are a limited number of spaces available in any given option, you may not necessarily be assigned to the housing you prefer. Educo reserves the right to assign housing as available.

You may also make your own housing arrangements, but this must be discussed with and approved by your home institution.

French household : Instant immersion in French culture.

You will have your own room - the size of a student room usually ranges between 110 to 150 square feet. Common areas, such as the living room and the kitchen, are shared, as are bathrooms (private bathrooms are rare). You occasionally share a meal with your host, who provides breakfast everyday. Sheets and towels are also furnished and laundered by your host.

"Living in a French family is the only way you will be assured of speaking French at least half of the time.  If you're at all serious about improving language skills this is a must. Perhaps a little bit harder at first, but well worth it in the long run. "

"My host is the most generous, sweet lady, very good company and is very helpful with my French!"

"My host family is great; they’re very friendly and helpful and try to help me have a good time here in Paris".

" Foyers " (student residences/dorms) : Dorm life à la française.

The "foyer" environment is very different from that of the dorm in the States. Living in a "foyer" facilitates contacts with French and international students, but strict rules concerning visitors are applied. Rooms are individual; bathrooms and kitchen facilities are shared. Sheets, towels and other linens are provided.

"Living in a foyer is great, especially because I’ve been able to meet tons of people from many different countries. I’ve also been able to practice my French a lot!"

"I love the foyer, and I’ve made many friends from many places. People are really friendly"

Educo apartments : Independent living.

Educo has a very limited number of apartments; priority is given to students who wish to remain a full year. Two Educo students are assigned to each apartment. Basic household items are provided, but students should not expect to find washing machines or micro-wave ovens. Students will be responsible for the maintenance of the apartment throughout their stay.
